With each yoga class I take, I search for peace, strength and the harmony of the two. Yoga is unique in that way, in the way that each person who takes a class finds what they want out of it. We all venture to our mats for our own purposes, but we are united at the same time. I was hooked on yoga the first time I tried it; Admittedly for the fitness benefits.
In the few years I’ve been practicing, I’ve discovered the many benefits of those barefoot sessions. Starting from a once-a-week class at the gym to joining a yoga studio, attending class a few times of week has become a highlight and a need. I no longer look solely to the fitness benefits, but rather the health benefits.
My mind becomes calm, my body feels relaxed, yet strong. Everyday life isn’t as stressful or worrisome, in fact, I’d say my overall mood is much more pleasant when I go to class regularly – so much so I can tell myself when I need to get to the studio. It’s funny how once you become more in tune with your body’s needs you recognize them when they speak.
So here’s to yoga… or whatever you do to keep you healthy and sane. If you haven’t found it yet, keep searching. Without our health, we have nothing else.
